This is a knife, not a pet toy. It has a real steel blade. It is shaped like a paw because it is made for people who like cats — keep it away from pets and children, and never leave it where either can reach it.

The blade

Curved, like the thing it is named after

A straight blade skids along packing tape. This one is hooked, so it bites in at the start of the cut and pulls through rather than sliding off.

It slides out on a button and pulls back in the same way, so nothing is exposed in a pocket or a bag.

Everyday use

Parcels, tape, packaging

Cardboard, parcel tape, blister packs, the plastic strapping on a delivery. It is sized for that and nothing heavier — it is not a work knife and it will not replace a proper craft blade for repeated cutting.

There is a loop at the base for a keyring or a lanyard.

Questions people ask

Is this a toy for my cat?

No. It is a cutting tool for people, with a steel blade. The paw shape is decoration. Do not let a pet near it.

Is the blade replaceable?

No. It is a sealed unit — when the edge goes dull, the tool is done. At this size and price that is the trade-off for something small enough to live on a keyring.

Does it lock open?

It holds while you press. Let go and the blade returns, which is the safer behaviour for something that gets carried around.

Can I take it on a plane?

No. Any bladed tool goes in checked luggage, not hand luggage. Airport security will take it off you.

Will it cut through thick card or wood?

No. It is made for tape, cardboard and packaging. Anything heavier needs a proper utility knife with a replaceable blade.

Sizing. Measure your pet nose to base of tail and compare with the measurements in the description. Breed names are a poor guide - two dogs of the same breed can be 4 kg apart.

Washing. Beds and blankets are machine washable unless the description says otherwise. Wash covers separately, warm not hot, and tumble dry low so the filling keeps its shape.

Introducing something new. Change food gradually over about a week, mixing an increasing share of the new food in. Put a new bed where the old one was rather than somewhere better.

Safety. Supervise play with plush and rope toys, and put wand toys away between sessions. No toy is indestructible.
