The QR tag works on its own

Scan the code on the buckle with your own phone and it takes about three minutes to set up a profile: your pet’s name, your phone number, anything a stranger should know. From then on, anyone who scans the tag sees how to reach you, and the maker’s service emails you when it is scanned.

It works with any phone camera, iPhone or Android, and needs no app. No AirTag is required for this part.

Why we suggest adding an AirTag

A QR tag has one limit: it only helps once somebody has found your cat, caught them, and thought to scan the collar. An AirTag works the other way round. It shows your cat on your own Find My map, so you can go looking instead of waiting for the phone to ring.

The two together are the reason this collar exists. The holder is built in and sits flat against the strap, so an AirTag does not swing like a charm or catch on fences.

Breakaway, because it is a cat

The buckle is a breakaway safety buckle: pulled hard, it lets go. That is the right design for a cat that climbs, because a collar that snags on a branch must not hold.

The honest trade-off is that if it releases, the AirTag goes with the collar. Find My will show you where it came off, which is often the best clue you get.

Adjusts from 7.87 to 13 inches around the neck and is 1 cm (0.4 in) wide. Fit it so two fingers slide underneath.

The collar weighs about 22 g; an AirTag adds about another 11 g. That is fine on an adult cat, but a lot on a small kitten — wait until they have grown into it.

Questions people ask

Do I need an AirTag for this collar to work?

No. The QR tag works on its own as soon as you have set up the profile, and that is already more than a plain collar does. We do recommend adding an AirTag, because the QR tag depends on someone finding your cat and scanning it, while an AirTag lets you find them yourself.

I use Android. Can I use a different tracker?

Not in the holder. It is shaped for an Apple AirTag, and other trackers will not sit in it securely. A tracker made for your phone, such as one for Samsung’s network, can hang from the ring on the buckle instead — it will swing and add weight, so check it suits your cat. If you want to see where your cat is in real time, you need a dedicated GPS pet tracker, which is a larger device with a monthly subscription.

Is an AirTag a GPS tracker?

No, and you will see plenty of listings that say it is. An AirTag has no GPS. It is found when an Apple device passes within Bluetooth range and reports its position to Find My. That works very well in a suburb and much less well in open country. Apple designs AirTag for keeping track of items rather than pets, so treat it as a strong clue rather than live tracking.

Who runs the QR profile?

The collar’s maker runs the free profile service; we do not. They say there is no subscription. Put only what you want a stranger to see on it — a phone number is usually enough — and keep your cat microchipped as well, because no tag is a substitute for a chip.

What if the collar comes off?

That is the breakaway buckle doing its job. With an AirTag in the holder, check Find My for where it was last seen, and reset the buckle when you find it.

Can a kitten wear it?

Only once the neck measures at least 7.87 inches and they are big enough to carry the extra weight of an AirTag comfortably. Small kittens do better with a plain breakaway collar and nothing hanging from it.

Sizing. Measure your pet nose to base of tail and compare with the measurements in the description. Breed names are a poor guide - two dogs of the same breed can be 4 kg apart.

Washing. Beds and blankets are machine washable unless the description says otherwise. Wash covers separately, warm not hot, and tumble dry low so the filling keeps its shape.

Introducing something new. Change food gradually over about a week, mixing an increasing share of the new food in. Put a new bed where the old one was rather than somewhere better.

Safety. Supervise play with plush and rope toys, and put wand toys away between sessions. No toy is indestructible.
