Straight or slanted

Two rims, two habits

The straight rim is the conventional one and holds more. The slanted rim tips the opening towards your cat, which gathers the last of the food at the low edge instead of leaving it round the far side.

If your cat regularly leaves a ring of biscuits behind, take the slanted one.

Yes for a cat. The pedestal is solid ceramic and the weight sits low.

Will it suit a dog?

A small one. At 13.7 cm across and 11 cm tall it is sized for cats and toy breeds, not for anything with a long muzzle.

Any special care?

Ceramic is glazed and wipes clean. Hand washing keeps the glaze and any painted detail looking new longest. Check for chips now and then — a chipped rim is sharp and is the point to retire a bowl.

Sizing. Measure your pet nose to base of tail and compare with the measurements in the description. Breed names are a poor guide - two dogs of the same breed can be 4 kg apart.

Washing. Beds and blankets are machine washable unless the description says otherwise. Wash covers separately, warm not hot, and tumble dry low so the filling keeps its shape.

Introducing something new. Change food gradually over about a week, mixing an increasing share of the new food in. Put a new bed where the old one was rather than somewhere better.

Safety. Supervise play with plush and rope toys, and put wand toys away between sessions. No toy is indestructible.
