Apricot poodle wearing the silver bone tag on a brown leather collar
Personalised Pet ID Tag: Engraved Both Sides, Stainless Steel
Regular price $21.00

Made for your pet

A microchip needs a vet. A phone number needs a stranger with a phone.

Most pets that go missing are found by a neighbour within a few streets, not handed in at a clinic. A chip is worth having, but it only does its job once somebody drives the animal somewhere with a scanner. A number on the collar works the moment they are picked up. This one is laser engraved into stainless steel on both sides — 5 × 2.8 cm, six finishes, split ring included.

Both sides

Twice the room, so you are not choosing

Most tags give you one face and make you decide between a name, a number and anything else that matters. Both faces of this one are engraved.

Front for the name and your mobile. Back for a second number, a street, or the line that actually changes what a stranger does next — microchipped, needs medication, do not chase.

Measurements: the tag is 5 cm wide and 2.8 cm tall

The size

Full size, and worth measuring first

5 cm across and 2.8 cm tall. That is a proper dog tag — big enough that a phone number engraves at a size someone can read at arm’s length in bad light, which is the whole point of it.

Be honest with yourself about your dog first. On a three-kilo dog it will look large and it will swing. If that is going to bother you, this is not the tag.

Six finishes

One of them cannot wear through

Silver, gold, rose gold, black, blue and rainbow. The shape, the steel and the engraving are identical across all six.

Silver is the bare polished steel. The other five are coloured finishes applied over that same steel, and the maker has not told us what the coating process is — so we are not going to promise you how they age. If you want the one with nothing on top to wear off, that is silver.

Close-ups of the polished surface, paw cutout, rounded edges and split ring

The build

Rounded, polished, and it comes with the ring

Edges are rounded and polished rather than stamped and left sharp, because this sits against a dog’s neck every day for years.

A split ring is included, so it goes onto the collar the day it arrives. The paw cutout is decoration, and the only reason to mention it is that it is cut through the plate rather than printed on.

Questions people ask

What should I put on it?

Your mobile number, first. It is the only line on the tag that actually gets your pet home — everything else is context. Beyond that, a common layout is the name and your number on the front, and a second number or a medical note on the back. Some owners deliberately leave the pet’s name off so that a stranger cannot call the dog away by name; that is a real consideration and the choice is yours.

How much text fits?

The maker does not publish a character limit, so we are not going to invent one. Their own examples show a name and a full international phone number on a single face, across two lines. We have set the form to 60 characters a side, which is comfortably more than that. If what you send will not engrave legibly at this size, we will email you before it goes to the laser rather than quietly shrink it to something nobody can read.

Will the engraving wear off?

The text is cut into the metal, not printed on it, so it does not rub off. The finish is a separate question: any polished tag that swings against a metal ring and a buckle picks up hairline scratches over a year or two. Silver hides them best because there is no coloured layer to scratch through.

Is it safe in water?

The maker rates it waterproof, and stainless steel does not rust, so baths, rain and swimming are fine. We are not making a long-term claim about the five coloured finishes in salt water, because we do not know what the coating is.

Will it jingle?

Yes. It is metal on a metal ring next to a metal buckle. If your dog sleeps in your bedroom, this is the thing you will notice. A silicone tag silencer costs almost nothing and solves it completely.

Can I put it on a cat?

It will fit, but understand what you are choosing: it is a 5 cm dog bone, and on a cat it is large and heavy for the job. If you do use one, put it on a breakaway collar only. A cat that hooks a tag on a fence needs the collar to let go, and that matters far more than the tag does.

How long does engraving take?

It is made to order, so it leaves later than something we hold on the shelf. You will get the wording back from us in writing before it is cut, and if anything looks like it will not sit properly on the plate we will say so then rather than after.

Shipping. Standard shipping is $5.95 and free on orders over $49. Express is $14.95. Orders leave us within 1-2 business days; standard delivery usually takes another 5-9 business days, express 2-4. We ship within the Australia only.

Returns. Unopened items can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund to your original payment method. Food and treats can only be returned unopened.

If an order arrives damaged or incorrect, email a photo to support@thetinypet.com with your order number. We will replace or refund it and cover the return shipping. Full detail on the Shipping & Returns page.

Sizing. Measure your pet nose to base of tail and compare with the measurements in the description. Breed names are a poor guide - two dogs of the same breed can be 4 kg apart.

Washing. Beds and blankets are machine washable unless the description says otherwise. Wash covers separately, warm not hot, and tumble dry low so the filling keeps its shape.

Introducing something new. Change food gradually over about a week, mixing an increasing share of the new food in. Put a new bed where the old one was rather than somewhere better.

Safety. Supervise play with plush and rope toys, and put wand toys away between sessions. No toy is indestructible.
