Legs-Out Front Pet Carrier with Bear Pocket: Six Sizes, 0.5 to 10 kg
Regular price $41.00

Out and about

For the cat who wants to see everything and walk nowhere.

A front carrier that sits against your chest with their head out and all four legs through, so they can watch the street from the safest seat there is. A drawstring neck and two side buckles keep them in, mesh side panels let air through, and a small embroidered bear on the front holds the treats. Six sizes, chosen by weight and back length.

How it sits

Close enough to keep a hand on them

Your pet sits upright against your chest, head out at about collarbone height, front paws free to rest on the pocket. Being able to feel you breathing is a large part of why a calm cat settles in one of these.

Both of your hands stay free, which is the point — and one of them should still stay on your pet whenever you are somewhere busy.

Staying in

Two ways to stop a wriggler

The neck is elasticated with a drawstring and bead stopper, so you can close it until the head comes through but the shoulders do not. That gap is the escape route, so snug it properly.

Two quick-release buckles at the sides adjust the fit around the body, and mesh panels down both sides keep the air moving.

Size chart: back length and suggested weight for sizes S to 3XL

The size

Measure the back, not just the scales

Each size lists a weight range and a back length — from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. If your pet falls between two sizes, go by the back length.

A carrier that is too big lets a cat turn round inside it, and that is how they end up halfway out.

The details

A pocket shaped like a bear

The embroidered bear is a real flap pocket, big enough for a handful of treats or a roll of bags. The maker adds a zipped side pocket for keys or a phone.

Soft padded edges at the top where it meets your pet’s chin, and wide shoulder straps so the weight sits across your back rather than your neck.

Sizing

Good to know

Questions people ask

Which size should I buy?

Weigh your pet and measure their back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, then check both against the chart. If they fall between two sizes, go by back length. Too big is the more dangerous mistake: a loose carrier lets them turn and slide out.

Will my cat like being carried legs-out?

A cat that already enjoys being held usually settles quickly. A cat that fights being picked up will not change its mind because there is a bag involved, and a frightened cat can twist free of any carrier. Start at home for a few minutes, then the garden, then the street.

Is it all right on a hot day?

Be careful with this in an Australian summer. Your pet is pressed against your body inside fabric, so they warm up faster than you do. Keep outings short on warm days, stay in the shade, and take them out at the first sign of panting.

Can I use it for a young kitten?

Size S starts at 0.5 kg, but a small kitten’s back still needs support, so keep a hand underneath them. And ask your vet before taking a kitten anywhere public — most advise waiting until vaccinations are finished.

How do I clean it?

The maker says it is machine washable. We would wash it cold on a gentle cycle and let it dry flat. It is not water resistant, so it is not the carrier for a rainy walk.

Sizing. Measure your pet nose to base of tail and compare with the measurements in the description. Breed names are a poor guide - two dogs of the same breed can be 4 kg apart.

Washing. Beds and blankets are machine washable unless the description says otherwise. Wash covers separately, warm not hot, and tumble dry low so the filling keeps its shape.

Introducing something new. Change food gradually over about a week, mixing an increasing share of the new food in. Put a new bed where the old one was rather than somewhere better.

Safety. Supervise play with plush and rope toys, and put wand toys away between sessions. No toy is indestructible.
