Steam grooming

A fine mist, so the hair stays on the brush.

Dry brushing lifts loose hair into the air and drops it on everything within a metre. This one releases a light mist as you comb, which weighs the hair down enough to stay on the pins — then a button retracts the pins and the whole mat lifts off in one piece.

The mist

Damp enough to hold hair, not to wet the coat

Fill the small tank with water. The mist is fine — the point is static control, not a bath, and most pets do not react to it the way they react to a spray bottle.

It also makes the comb glide, which matters on a cat that objects to being brushed at all.

Emptying it

One button, no picking

Press the release and the pins withdraw into the head, leaving the collected hair sitting loose on top. Lift it off and drop it in the bin.

The pins are rounded at the tip so they part the coat rather than scratch the skin underneath.

Good to know

Questions people ask

What goes in the tank?

Plain water. Keep coat sprays and oils out of it — anything but water will eventually block the nozzle.

Does it work on a matted coat?

No. This is a finishing and deshedding brush. A real mat needs a rake or a groomer, and pulling at it with any brush hurts.

Is it noisy?

It is quiet, but it is still a device that makes a sound near a cat's head. Let them see and hear it switched on before you start brushing.

Sizing. Measure your pet nose to base of tail and compare with the measurements in the description. Breed names are a poor guide - two dogs of the same breed can be 4 kg apart.

Washing. Beds and blankets are machine washable unless the description says otherwise. Wash covers separately, warm not hot, and tumble dry low so the filling keeps its shape.

Introducing something new. Change food gradually over about a week, mixing an increasing share of the new food in. Put a new bed where the old one was rather than somewhere better.

Safety. Supervise play with plush and rope toys, and put wand toys away between sessions. No toy is indestructible.
