The shape

A pouch, not a bag

The front panel dips so their head and front paws come out over the top while the rest of them stays supported — which is the position most small dogs settle into on their own.

A drawstring adjusts the opening, so a 3 kg cat and a 7 kg dog both get a reasonable fit rather than one loose hole.

Separate pockets for a phone, keys, waste bags and a handful of treats. The point of a sling is having your hands free, and that falls apart if you are also carrying a shoulder bag.

The lining is polyester rather than cotton — it wipes down instead of soaking in.

An internal safety lock clips to their harness so they cannot jump out at the exact moment something interesting crosses the road.

The strap is padded across the shoulder, which is what decides whether a 7 kg dog is comfortable for twenty minutes or for five.

Questions people ask

How much can it hold?

The maker rates it to 7.5 kg. You will see 18 lb printed on one of the product images, which works out slightly higher — where two numbers disagree we quote the lower one, so plan for 7.5 kg.

Is it cotton?

No. The listing it came from said cotton, but the maker’s own specification says polyester, and polyester is what the lining behaves like. We would rather correct that here than have you find out at home.

Will my cat use it?

Cats who already like being carried usually take to a sling faster than to a boxy carrier, because they can see out and feel your body against them. Clip the safety lock to a harness every time.

Can I wash it?

Spot clean and air dry. The padded strap and structured pouch do not survive a machine cycle well.

Sizing. Measure your pet nose to base of tail and compare with the measurements in the description. Breed names are a poor guide - two dogs of the same breed can be 4 kg apart.

Washing. Beds and blankets are machine washable unless the description says otherwise. Wash covers separately, warm not hot, and tumble dry low so the filling keeps its shape.

Introducing something new. Change food gradually over about a week, mixing an increasing share of the new food in. Put a new bed where the old one was rather than somewhere better.

Safety. Supervise play with plush and rope toys, and put wand toys away between sessions. No toy is indestructible.
