A front-entry hooded box, so the litter stays in and the view stays out. The bottom section slides out like a drawer, which means you can clean it without lifting the hood off and wearing the contents. A scoop is included.

This is a small box. The supplier rates it for cats under about 3.6 kg — that is a kitten or a genuinely small adult, not an average 4–5 kg cat.

External size is about 46 × 31 × 37 cm. Measure your cat, not your floor space: a cat needs room to turn around inside, and a box that is too tight is the most common reason they stop using one.

The drawer

Where enclosed boxes usually go wrong

On most hooded boxes you have to unclip and lift the whole top to get at the litter. Here the base slides out, so the mess stays below waist height and the hood stays put.

Questions people ask

Is it big enough for my cat?

Only if they are under about 3.6 kg. This is the one thing to check before ordering — an average adult cat will find it cramped, and a cramped box is a box they stop using.

Does it come with a scoop?

Yes, a scoop is included.

Does the drawer catch everything?

It catches what falls through when you rake. You still need to take the drawer out and wash it — it is easier access, not self-cleaning.

Will it keep the smell in?

Better than an open tray, because it is hooded. It is not sealed and it has no filter, so it still needs emptying on the same schedule.

Sizing. Measure your pet nose to base of tail and compare with the measurements in the description. Breed names are a poor guide - two dogs of the same breed can be 4 kg apart.

Washing. Beds and blankets are machine washable unless the description says otherwise. Wash covers separately, warm not hot, and tumble dry low so the filling keeps its shape.

Introducing something new. Change food gradually over about a week, mixing an increasing share of the new food in. Put a new bed where the old one was rather than somewhere better.

Safety. Supervise play with plush and rope toys, and put wand toys away between sessions. No toy is indestructible.
