The daily job

Nobody minds the walk. Everybody minds the bending.

A bag over your hand puts your knuckles about two centimetres from the thing you are picking up, and your back somewhere near your knees. This clips an ordinary bag into a ring on the end of a stainless steel rod that extends to 131 cm, so you stay upright and your hand stays a metre away.

How it works

The bag does the catching

The ring opens, you stretch a normal waste bag over it, and the clamp snaps shut on the rim with one press. Pick up, release the clamp, tie the bag. Your hand never gets closer than the length of the rod.

It takes ordinary poop bags — whatever roll you already buy. Nothing proprietary, so you are not locked into refills at a markup.

The grip is rubber and long enough to hold properly, which matters when your other hand has a dog on the end of it.

The rod collapses down and the ring folds flat, so it goes in a pocket of the bag you already carry rather than needing its own.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between the three options?

The set is the scooper plus five rolls of bags. Scooper only is exactly that, for people who already buy bags. Refill bags only is five rolls with no scooper, for when you have the tool and have run out.

Does it need special bags?

No. The ring clamps onto whatever waste bag you already use. That is deliberate — a tool that only works with its own refills is a tool that stops being useful the day you cannot get them.

Does it work on grass?

On grass and on hard ground, yes. On deep gravel or bark chips it is harder, because the bag catches on the surface rather than sliding under — that is true of every bag-clip scooper, not this one in particular.

How does it store?

The rod collapses and the ring folds flat against it. At 80 g it lives in a jacket pocket or clipped to a lead bag rather than needing somewhere of its own.

Can I use it one-handed?

Yes, which is the reason to own one. Clamping the bag on needs two hands; picking up and releasing does not.

Sizing. Measure your pet nose to base of tail and compare with the measurements in the description. Breed names are a poor guide - two dogs of the same breed can be 4 kg apart.

Washing. Beds and blankets are machine washable unless the description says otherwise. Wash covers separately, warm not hot, and tumble dry low so the filling keeps its shape.

Introducing something new. Change food gradually over about a week, mixing an increasing share of the new food in. Put a new bed where the old one was rather than somewhere better.

Safety. Supervise play with plush and rope toys, and put wand toys away between sessions. No toy is indestructible.
